Exchange Configuration for Calendar in Skype for Business clients

Part of the Skype for Business ecosystem includes Microsoft Exchange. SfB clients connect directly to Exchange to retrieve calendar and contact information.

This requires an Exchange Client Access Server role installed ( in Exchange 2016 and up this is a service that needs to be running)

SphereShield for SfB includes an EWS Protector component that protects EWS services with two main features:

  1. Account lockout protection.

  2. Optionally, only allow SphereShield registered SfB clients to connect to EWS.

This is recommended only if your organization doesn’t use EWS externally for other purposes, such as Outlook Anywhere.

This feature is only available where the exchange URLs are on the same domain as the SfB URLs. E.g. lyncdiscover.company.com  autodiscover.company.com  ews-ext.company.com

To benefit from EWS Protector, Autodiscover and EWS External URL traffic needs to be directed to your Bastion server, and the EWS External URL must be configured and resolvable by DNS.
